Can you Feel the Love?

Yes, Emmory is crying the the photo above.

Even though we all look semi-happy in this picture, it was quite the challenge to get Miss Emmory to cooperate. Most of the pictures looked like this:

She has such an independant mind, and will not be told what to do. I can hardly wait for her to become a teenager. Oy. What they say is true! What goes around, comes around....

Can you hear the crickets chirping?

Just dropped by to remind you all of my existence. I am still around, just dealing with a virus of the computer kind. Boo. The computer is with our computer fixer guy. Hopefully I'll be up and running by next week. Until then, enjoy this autumn weather by going for a walk or something else you like to do! Okay?

P.S. Is the x or the o the hug? I think it's the o. What do you think?

I have an Injury

So I am totally embarrassed. I have been running 3 times. That's it. Three. And what happens? A knee injury. I have been doing all the right things to my knowledge, but I am still a very novice runner so I am not sure. I am hoping to be back in my running shoes first thing next week, and until then... lots and lots of ice.

Have any of you ever had a running injury?

Summer Reading/ Quick Review

Title: A Thousand Splendid Suns
Author: Khaled Hosseini
Pages: 367
Rating: 5/5

This book is fantastic, and a little haunting at times. I love the writing, the stories, the history and the characters. This book quickly became one of my all time favorites.

Title: While I was Gone
Author: Sue Miller
Pages: 266
Rating: 5/5

I was sure what to expect from this book. I knew nothing about it when I picked it up. The story is fascinating, and clever. I hoped the ending were a little different, but it was still great.

I'd Like to Start Running as Fast as My Mascara...

I am no runner. I have always despised it in fact. For many reasons really. It is uncomfortable for my.... buxom figure, it makes my frizzy hair, well, frizzier, hurts the lungs, and you know how you can feel your heart beat in your head when you are working out really hard? Yeah, I hate that too. However, for the last year or so, I have had this unnatural obsession with wanting to run. A marathon no less. I am too young to be having a midlife crisis, so lets just chalk it up to hormone levels... At any rate, I have put on my list to run a 10K (way more attainable than the marathon), I started training for it yesterday.

Yesterday was the first day I have run in, I would say 5 (eek!) years! The regimen was pretty easy, but towards the end, I was definitely feeling the challenge. The plan was to spend 5 minutes in a warm up walk. Spend 1 minute in a brisk walk, 1 minute running. Repeating that 10 times, and then a 5 minute cool down. Success! I have the same running schedule today and then tomorrow is a rest day. So far, I would say that I am really enjoying the run.

It is hard for me to run when all I hear is silence. I made a really awesome playlist. Here it is:

1. The Bird & The Worm= Owl City
2. The First Single= The Format
3. Dance Dance= Fall Out Boy
4. Born to Lead=Hoobastank
5. Morris Brown (clean version)= Outkast
6. Money Honey= Lady Gaga
7. Four Minutes=Madonna ft. Justin Timberlake
8 Don't Look Down= David Ryan Harris
9. Pachelbel meets U2= Jon Schmidt

What's on your playlist?

My 15 by 30

I recently read a book called The Next Thing on My List. I found myself relating a little too much with the main character about how she is one to never finish things through. That is me all over the place! I will soon be approaching 30 (eek!) and am inspired to make a list of things I am always saying I want to do but never get around to it. I am calling it My 15 Before 30. So without further ado:

My 15 Before 30

  1. Learn Tennis
  2. Lose 50 pounds
  3. Go to dinner and a movie Alone, by myself
  4. Run a 10K
  5. Get completely out of debt
  6. Take an oil painting class
  7. Read 100 novels between now and then
  8. Take belly dancing classes
  9. Take a writing class
  10. Do a pinup photo shoot (always loved pinup models!)
  11. Pay for a random strangers bill at a restaurant
  12. Spend a whole day at a spa
  13. Make 50 hats to donate to the Children's Hospital
  14. Write a letter to 5 specific people, thanking them for shaping my life
  15. Ride in a Hot Air Balloon

I am currently working on a "101 Things to do before you die" or "bucket list" and these are all included in it. When I am done with the final list, I will share.

What is on your list?

What Have I Been Doing?

Looking back, I can't believe it has been TWO MONTHS since I posted last. Time has flown by and before you know it, summer will be over and we will be settling into a regular routine with school, and sports and the like.

So, what has our summer been like? Well, I am glad you asked! BUSY! We went to Utah as a whole family for mothers day. It was so much fun.

We have been to Amusement Parks with the kids and I even got to ride some kiddie rides!

(The little boy that is with us, is Houston's nephew Hayden who has been staying with us for the summer. Isn't his face in the picture above, priceless?!)

We have been lounging around in bed:

Singing karaoke in our swimming suits:

Hanging out at a lake:

Napping where ever we want:

And most importantly, spending time as a family.

Hope you are all enjoying your summer too!

What have I Been Reading?

Well, I have not had a ton of time to read, but I have managed to get through a couple of books. I really enjoyed all three of these books. I am not going to give a full review of all as time is always short with me these days.

Title: The Next Thing on My List
Author: Jill Smolinski
Pages: 304
Rating: 5/5

I rated this book 5/5. I really enjoyed the story. It was a really quick read for me, and as I had just finished reading The Zookeepers Wife, I needed something a little light hearted and fun. The basic story is of a woman, June, who gets into a car accident with a girl she barely knows and the girl dies. In the Marissa's purse, June finds a list of 20 things Marissa had wanted to accomplish before she turns 25. In honor of Marissa and her list, June decides to finish the list for her.

The biggest thing I think I took away from the book, is that I am sailing through life, not really DOING anything. I live my life from day to day, doing the same old thing. I have decided to do a list of my own. 30 things to accomplish before I turn 30. More on that in another post.

The book is thought inspiring. It is not what I would call deep thinking or anything, but it will inspire you to evaluate where you are and perhaps inspire you to try something new.

Title: The Zookeepers Wife
Author: Diane Ackerman
Pages: 323
Rating: 4/5

I rated this novel 4/5. While the book was fascinating, I found it hard to turn off my brain and really delve into the story. This book is written based on the journal writing of Antonina, the Zookeepers wife, and based in Poland. It is a memoir of sorts. I love, love, love reading about anything that has to do with WWII. A story of this perspective is different than what I have read in the past, and I really enjoyed it.

Title: Atonement
Author: Ian McEwan
Rating: 5/5
All I can say about this book is Why?! did I wait so long to read it. I bought it about 2 years ago, and it has been sitting on my nightstand forever. I finally picked it up, and couldn't put it down! This has got to be one of my all time favorite books so far. The story just twists and turns and ends in an unexpected way.

I know these reviews are not the greatest, but mostly they are for me. So I can remember what I read and when. Thanks for reading! Hope you are all enjoying the summer!

Minnie Mouse Birthday Party

The oreo's are supposed to look like Minnie Mouse ears. I am not sure if that idea was accomplished or not, but hey, she is two. It looked close enough to her!

Isn't this Minnie Mouse pinata just creepy?! She loves it. We never ended up busting it apart cause she loved it too much. We had a great party!

Happy Birthday Emmory

I can't believe this spunky little thing is two years old! She is so fun, so loving, so energetic, so passionate, and has blessed my life in more ways I thought possible.

Super Easy Herb Chicken

Let me tell you, this is the easiest recipe for chicken and it is so delicious!

2 tsp. dried parsley, divided evenly

2 tsp. dried basil, divided evenly

2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

2 cloves garlic thinly sliced

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

2 slices of tomatoes (optional) I have tried this both with the tomatoes and with out. It is really good both ways. I like it without the tomatoes because it makes the cheese a little more crisp.

Shredded mozzarella cheese

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 9*13 pan with cooking spray.

2. sprinkle 1 tsp. parsley and 1 tsp. basil evenly over the bottom of the baking dish. Place chicken in the dish. Coat with garlic clove slices. Combine the remaining basil and parsley, crushed red pepper and salt. Cover the chicken with mixture. Top with tomato slices.

3. Bake covered for 20 minutes. Remove cover, add cheese and cook for another 20 minutes or until chicken is cooked all the way through.

New Shirt

How cute is this shirt? Nancy from Nancy's Couture was needing some people to test out a new pattern for her. I jumped at the opportunity and I think that it turned out so darling. I can't wait to try it on Miss Emmory.

Shirt Dress

Let me first start by saying that I am a VERY BEGINNER sewer. I came across this awesome blog and found some really great crafting ideas. When I saw this shirt I immediately went to the closet, found an old shirt and went to work. The project was pretty simple and I am going to be making some more, now that I know what I am doing.... You can try this out yourself by following this very easy to follow tutorial.

Pom Pom Wreath

I made this wreath to put on the door of the girls room. First project finished for them! Hooray! Tutorial to make this found HERE

Time Flies When You Are Having Fun (and no sleep!)

I can't believe it has been 6 weeks already! Ellie has become so ginormous! She is a little chunkster that loves to eat, loves to cuddle and hates to sleep in her own bed. She is smiling and melting our hearts everyday.

The transition from one child to two has been harder than I thought, but that's mainly because this mommy loves her sleep.

I am currently in the process of getting the girls room put together since it has been sorely neglected since the move. I am making most of the decorations, so I will be posting pictures of that to come.

I would say "I am so happy for Spring to be here!" We had 70 degree weather yesterday and it should be 66 today. However, I live in Denver and we are projected to get the worst snow storm since 2003 (remember that Monica?!) and only 29 degrees tomorrow. Gotta love the unstableness of Colorado weather!!! Gotta get the blankies back out and get ready for a day of snuggles and cuddles and warm comfort food tomorrow!

I know, I know. More pictures. That is all I am capable of right now. Life is pretty hectic, and as I sit here typing, I am feeling guilty knowing that I still have some ironing to do. Oh well, just because I didn't try today, doesn't mean I can't try tomorrow!

We got pictures of the girls. The first time we have had professional pictures taken. I thought they turned out pretty cute...

More Ellie

Not much to say. She is a great baby and sleeps most of the time. Emmory is getting used to the idea that she is here to stay. I am keeping busy with these two so not much time to write more.
